Personal notification preferences
This isn’t the same as SMS and email templates sent to parents — notification preferences are about you: when you (an admin or therapist) want a heads-up that something happened in the system (e.g. a parent reported an absence, someone added a note).
Click path
Section titled “Click path”Menu → Notifications, Preferences tab:
- A list of events as rows (e.g. “Guardian reported absence”, “New session scheduled”, “New note”) — the set of events depends on your role; a therapist sees a narrower range than an admin.
- Channel toggles next to each event: SMS and email.
- Save — from now on the chosen events go out on the chosen channels.
Push notifications (a separate card, also available to parents) — turn on to get browser notifications even when Planote isn’t open. If your browser blocks notifications in its own settings, Planote will tell you directly.
Admins also get a History tab (a log of sent notifications); therapists get All notifications.

Does this affect the SMS/emails parents receive? No — that’s a separate system. Communication to parents (reminders, cancellations) is configured under Settings → Communication, independent of your personal preferences.
Why am I not getting anything, even though something happened? Check that you turned on at least one channel (SMS or email) for that event — everything is off by default.
Can a parent set their own notification preferences like an admin can? Not yet — a parent currently only has a push notification toggle; per-event channel selection for that role is in progress.
