Group sessions — assigning children to groups

With a dozen or so children and several groups, juggling separate records and counting by hand leads to mistakes in the roster. One view for bulk roster management replaces re-typing card by card.

Group session types are set up in Admin → Session types (see Day one). This article covers assigning children to groups that already exist.

  1. Admin → Groups → pick a group → Manage assignments.
  2. On the left you see group buckets with seat limits, on the right the list of children, and at the bottom the No group zone — you can see free seats and near-full groups right away.
  3. Drag a child from the list onto the chosen group — the counter goes up immediately, no extra save dialog.
  4. A child can be assigned to several groups at once — dragging onto a second group adds an assignment, it doesn’t move them.
  5. When a group is full, the system blocks further assignment — the seat limit is a hard rule.
  6. Menu on the bucket → Unpin all — after confirming in the dialog, clears the whole group’s roster at once (e.g. a reset at year end). Only the chosen group is cleared — a child also assigned to another group stays there unchanged.

Does dragging a child onto another group remove them from the first one? No — a child can belong to multiple groups at once. To remove them from one group, use the X next to the child in that bucket, or “Unpin all” for the whole group.

What happens if I try to add a child to a full group? The system blocks the assignment — the seat limit set on the group is a hard constraint.

Can “Unpin all” be undone? There’s no one-click undo — the confirmation dialog exists specifically to avoid accidentally clearing a roster.
